Bringing Family Fun to the Sioux Empire Home Show: Home Solutions’ Role in the Kids Zone

Each year, the Sioux Empire Home Show in South Dakota stands as the largest building industry event in the state, drawing homeowners and professionals alike to explore the latest trends, products, and innovations in construction. Among the expert discussions and product showcases is one special area dedicated to making the event enjoyable for the whole family: the Kids Zone. For the fifth year in a row, Eric Yost, owner of Home Solutions and a passionate advocate for community involvement, will lead this engaging feature of the show.

A Fun and Educational Experience for Children

The Kids Zone at the Sioux Empire Home Show is a place where children of all ages can take part in building a fun, hands-on project. The activity is free, and it’s designed to give kids a chance to use simple tools and create something tangible they can take home. In 2025, kids will build miniature bean bag toss boards, combining fun with creativity in a way that sparks their imagination and sense of accomplishment.

Eric Yost, who runs the Kids Zone, shares his motivation: “I love helping kids try something new and feel proud of building something usable out of a pile of materials. It’s about more than just assembling a project—it’s about giving them confidence and a sense of achievement.”

Creating New Ideas Year After Year

Each year brings a different project to the Kids Zone, and coming up with fresh ideas is no small task. Eric and his co-owner, Don, invest time in brainstorming and researching options that are fun, simple, and budget-friendly. “We think long and hard about each year’s project,” says Eric. “We want to ensure it’s something the kids can enjoy building but also simple enough to complete during the show.”

Over the years, these thoughtful projects have brought joy to hundreds of kids. On average, the Kids Zone sees about 500 projects completed each year, with the record being over 700 in a single event. Many kids spend hours at the show, and having something they have built themselves keeps them entertained and gives them a memento to carry around proudly as their parents explore the exhibits.

Why the Kids Zone Matters

The Sioux Empire Home Show is designed with homeowners in mind, offering them a wealth of information from building professionals, contractors, and suppliers. But the importance of having a space dedicated to children cannot be overstated. “The home show is largely for adults, but it’s important to have an area for kids to ensure they leave with a positive experience,” Eric explains. “It makes them excited to be there, and they walk away feeling like they’ve accomplished something.”

The Impact of the Sioux Empire Home Show

As South Dakota’s largest building industry event, the Sioux Empire Home Show is made possible through the generous support of its sponsors and volunteers. The event allows homeowners to meet with industry experts, learn about the latest products, and gain insights into the best practices in home building and renovation. “It’s an amazing event,” says Eric. “People can come, meet experts, and see what’s new in the industry. There’s so much to learn, and the Kids Zone is just one more way to make the experience memorable for families.”

By leading the Kids Zone, Home Solutions continues to contribute to the community, providing a fun and educational experience for children while showcasing the values of the building industry. The 2025 Sioux Empire Home Show promises to be another exciting event for all involved, and Home Solutions is proud to play a part in making it enjoyable for everyone, young and old alike.
